COVID Again!

I made a promise to myself when I started this blog that I would keep the info shared and posted here about moving to and living in Arizona.  I didn’t want to venture into the political arena or speak about any of the topics that bring out the nasty in todays’ society.  I’m going to break that promise today – one time only!

I just watched episode 5 in Season 3 of the Morning Show. I’m so glad it’s back (plug for the Morning Show on Apple TV – you should watch it!).  If you haven’t watched this show it really is very well done and this episode gave me a great reminder of why I really like it.

There were a few confusing developments as Season 3 started and the intent of episode 5 was to clear up some of the confusion. So, it started as a flashback to the spring of 2020…. yes, the COVID crisis ( no spoiler alert here!)

What struck me as I watched is just how troubled and in turmoil we were! People in mask – were you exposed; did you take the vaccine? Are you working at home? Are you working at all? If so, do you have enough food? And that wasn’t looking at first responders and front facing workers in hospitals or customer service who had to deal with the public every day.

It troubled me because as I watched, I wondered if we learned anything that would keep us from ever having to re-visit something like this again?

In Maricopa County in August of 2023, COVID cases peaked at just above 2000 cases. Since that time, they have declined. Consensus says that we don’t see levels anywhere near pandemic levels, but you still have people that do get infected. You also will see many people wearing mask – a small portion of the population but you do see mask.

There is a new COVID vaccine that recently became available and of course the experts strongly suggest that you take another booster. Of course, that was a hotly contested subject at the height of the pandemic – the choice of course, is yours.

All of this to say that COVID is still among us and probably will continue to be something we have to pay attention to.  How we guard against it is a subject that still causes division and conflict.  How you choose to protect yourself and your family is your choice.

The debate continues and I’ll ask the question again, did we learn anything from the 2020 pandemic?
