Voting in Arizona

I promise this is not a political opinion post!  But rather an informational post about how you can vote in Arizona and register if you need to.

I think we all can agree the 2024 election on November 5, 2024, will be one of the most consequential and interesting elections of our lifetime. So, as informed and responsible citizens and perhaps newly transplanted or about to be transplanted you might need this info.

I think you will find that it is easy to register as a new Arizona voter. The systems that are in place are honestly first class. I’ve always maintained since I moved here that Arizona government uses technology very efficiently!

So, here is what you need to know:

  • In order to vote in the November 5th election, you need to register by October 7, 2024
  • To register to vote in Arizona you must meet the following qualifications (A.R.S.§16-101):
    • Be a citizen of the United States of America
    • Be a resident of Arizona and the county listed on your registration
    • Be 18 years of age on or before the day of the next regular General Election
  • If you have your Arizona ID (license or ID card) you can go to https://servicearizona.com/. This is the official site of Arizona MVD which processes voter registration.
  • Complete the short registration form and you can print or email your receipt.
  • Your application is transferred to your county recorder, and you should receive your voter registration card within three to six weeks.
  • I contacted the Secretary of State office to see if you need to wait for the official registration card before you can vote, and the answer was “no”.  You would need to provide proof of ID at your polling place.
  • You can update address information here if you have previously registered.
  • There is also a link to check the status of your registration and to find your polling place
  • If you don’t have an Arizona ID yet, you will need to print a form, provide proof of citizenship and mail to the county recorder.  You can obtain the form by emailing your request to [email protected] or visit the county recorder’s office in person
  • You can get voter registration information from the Secretary of State website including early voting info at: https://azsos.gov/elections/voters

The Secretary of State website is a treasure trove of information, and you should definitely view it as you complete your registration.

Once you are registered, the registration does not expire. You should update address information should you move and from time to time I always check my status just to be sure I’m still on the active list at: https://my.arizona.vote/PortalList.aspx

I received a post from the state election director reminding everyone that pictures are not allowed to be taken within 75 feet of a polling location, not even your own ballot!  Lots of pictures showing that you voted on social media sites, but nothing is allowed inside the 75-foot line, or it would be considered a misdemeanor!  If you vote at home by mail of course, this doesn’t apply.

I hope you will find this information to be helpful!
